November always brings with it a special sense of gratitude, and while I feel like I’m constantly expressing appreciation for this community, our Chamber members, and our supporters, this month it feels even more meaningful. As we approach the end of the year and work through our administrative wrap-up—budgets, board transitions, governing document reviews, our new 2026/2027 Visitor Guide, and preparations for another full year of events—I’m reminded daily of how grateful I am for the people I get to work alongside.
This month marks Annie Freid’s one-year anniversary as our Event & Office Coordinator. The growth I’ve seen in her during this year has been remarkable. Her willingness to learn, her consistency, and her positive energy have made her an invaluable part of our operations. I’m truly lucky to collaborate with her every day.
I’m also incredibly grateful for Ed Hoffman, whose mentorship has been a gift to me and a catalyst for our tourism marketing success. The progress we’ve made with our Visitor Guide and promotional efforts is showing real results—businesses are noticing more customers from the Twin Cities and beyond who are choosing Lake City because they saw an ad, heard about our community, or simply became curious about what makes Lake City special. Ed has put in a tremendous amount of thoughtful, strategic work to ensure Lake City is front and center for travelers.
As we look toward January, we will also be welcoming transitions on our Board of Directors. I couldn’t ask for a more supportive and engaged board. Having the ability to approach any director—whether with challenges or exciting news—and receive thoughtful guidance, encouragement, and enthusiasm is something I value deeply. Their commitment to our mission continues to push us forward.
With the holiday season right around the corner, I hope everyone enjoys a warm and wonderful Thanksgiving. Our office will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and Friday, and then we’ll jump right into the festivities at Light Up Lake City at Patton Park on Saturday. We can’t wait to help kick off the holiday cheer!
Be sure to check out all the great events happening throughout December, and keep an eye out for two important items coming to your inbox this month:
• Annual Awards nomination form
• Ballot to vote for our incoming Board of Directors
Thank you for being part of an incredible community and for the partnerships, collaboration, and spirit that make this work so meaningful. I am truly grateful.
Warmly,
Heather Thomas
Executive Director
